What’s there not to like about Paddy Power?! The Irish firm have been making a splash in the UK market over the past few years, especially with their early payouts and close-to-the-knuckle advertising. Although the company like to play up their image of mavericks from Ireland who are happy to provide odds on virtually anything, there are some sharp minds behind the growth of this very popular and accessible sportsbook which encourages loyalty among customers.

Paddy Power Reputation

: 4/5

Whilst Paddy Power is the largest bookmaker in Ireland, it is also listed on the London Stock Exchange and has betting shops located throughout the British Isles. In addition to the retail element (86 branches in the UK) and global online presence, there is also a strong telephone operation based just outside of Dublin.

Over the years, Paddy Power has become synonymous with early payouts and what they like to call ‘justice payouts’. In the case of the former, Paddy recently paid out on Ireland beating England in the rugby before the match had even been played (!), while they also made a ‘justice payout’ when the Irish football team were controversially prevented from qualifying for the World Cup.

There is also the range of special markets offered which is underpinned by the firm’s mission to provide great value and fun for its clients. It is less conventional that competitors and were the instigators of providing Insurebet, not to mention the only bookmakers to give you your money back if your horse falls.

A generous £50 of free bets are available for all new visitors to the site, with this likely to increase if you open an account during a busy time like the Cheltenham Festival or the World Cup. To qualify, place a bet up to £25 and Paddy will match it with a free bet. For the second free bet installment, place a further five bets and the bookie will match your average stake up to a maximum of £25.

In addition, Paddy Power prides itself on providing Best Price Guaranteed on both horse and greyhound racing, which applies to early and board prices. There are also a variety of ‘Soccer Money Back Specials’ which generally revolve around your stake being refunded on losing first goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles if a selected player scores the last goal. This is generally updated on a daily basis. Until the end of March, the Irish firm have offered to refund losing football coupons (four-folds and upwards) if your wager is winning at half time but not at full time.

They also have a fantastic Last Man Standing competition available, where customers can scoop a £10,000 cash prize by predicting the outcome of Premier League matches. It’s an exciting knockout contest where you pick one team to win every week.

Paddy Power Customer Service

: 4/5

Full marks to Paddy Power for offering contact details on their homepage, which includes a toll free number for customers based in the UK and Ireland. There is also a link to their Live Chat facility on the top horizontal menu and you can expect a member of staff to pick up your query pretty quickly.

Knowledge-wise, they’re pretty good, although it’s usually worth picking up the phone if you have any payment issues as you’ll get the matter sorted more quickly. Visiting the ‘Contact Us’ section also throws up the ‘Help Centre’ featuring lots of FAQ’s, although marks are lost for only being available 8am – midnight on Monday to Saturday and 9am – midnight on Sunday.

Paddy Power Software / Website

: 4/5

The Paddy Power site uses Orbis Technology software and the primary language is English, although there’s also a Spanish-speaking version available. The website is swift-loading and the homepage features all the big sporting events that are taking place on that particular day, with thumbnails and editorial being used to great effect. They also present the latest Live Betting / Next 5 Races / Top 5 Bets above the fold for users, with many live football matches being streamed for free thanks to the company’s deal with Perform. Their In-Play betting is quite classy, although could probably improve in terms of dynamism.
